The correct identification of CARES species is critical and we are so fortunate and grateful to have an amazing team of experts who will ensure that your fish are accurately verified.

Registering your CARES Species

Submit your CARES species for verification and registration at www.caresspecies.org.
1. Navigate to CARES Species on the top menu and use the search options to locate your species.
2. Click on the Species Name to load the species page.
3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Register This Species button.

Photos

Each species submission requires at least one sideview photo for verification. Photos are not expected to be of the highest quality but MUST be reasonably in focus and show the fish colored up. You can achieve the best color for verification by taking pictures right after a water change or during spawning. Photos can be taken with your iPhone. Further photos may be requested. Short video clips are not able to be uploaded onto the registration site, but if you prefer to send a video please email it to [email protected].

Photos MUST be of YOUR Colony

Photos MUST be of the fish that you are registering. Photos taken in the past or from the Internet do not identify YOUR fish and cannot be accepted for registration.

We realize taking photos of your fish is not always easy and we thank you for your help with this important step in the registration process!

Notification of Approval

You will receive an email notification from the CARES team when your registration has been approved or if more information or photos are needed.

Check the Status of your Submission

You can check the status of your submission at any time by going to www.caresspecies.org.
1. On the top menu click on Registration.
2. On the dropdown menu click on Check Your CARES Registration Status.
3. Submit your email address.
